Biography

Panter Studio

Johan was born in The Netherlands and moved to the United States in 1984.  He currently resides in California.  He has been creating music since an early age.
His music is improvisational in nature.  The style, based on current trends, ranges from electronic to ambient and pop with a jazzy influence.
Johan’s driving source in life is creativity and he expresses that primarily through composing and creating music.  However, he also uses video/photography to accompany the music and expand it into more dimensions.
 
Prior to 2007, Johan’s main focus was on creating new music.  He has composed and copyrighted over 300 compositions.  Commercialization was to be done at a later time.
In 2007 he established Pluyter Music, a music publishing and production company, to share his creations with the world.
Johan does not perform in public as his schedule of music creation as well as a fulltime career in research & development makes that not possible due to time limitations.  He is a physical, polymer and colloid chemist by training and manages research and development as profession.  Recently, he started his own consulting company, Pluyter Consulting, LLC.
 
Johan uses the MIDI system to create multilayered aural paintings that are formed through a combination of improvisation and traditional composing.  Even though Johan’s music is unique it has been influenced by jazz and jazz-rock, progressive rock and the electronic masters. Johan uses synthesizers, sampled instruments and vocals.  The music is neither limited by the length of the composition, nor the musical style nor the chosen instruments.  Often, electronic instruments are combined in compositions with Western and Eastern instruments and sampled vocals.
 
Johan’s first CD titled “Evolutions” was released in the Fall of 2008. “Evolutions” is a collection of emotional and rhythmic compositions which are each stories by themselves. Vivid images are formed when listening to these intense tracks. The second CD “Silhouettes At Dusk” was released in the Fall of 2009.
 
Even though it has been a while since new music was released Johan has continued to create and record many more compositions.  Johan’s hectic work in industrial research and development does make it more difficult to focus on commercializing new music as that required a lot of precise work involving high resolution recording, editing, mastering and CD artwork design.  Even more, it is sometimes hard to choose which compositions to combine into a new CD release.  The new business of consulting is expected to allow for better time management such that new work can be released soon.
 
Another area that Johan has been working on for many years is video production and photography.  Most of the time, that was done in an industrial environment.  Movies for research, marketing and training purposes were created and accompanied by Johan’s music.
In addition, Johan provided on a regular basis corporate photography for company events such as CEO company tours, training courses, celebratory events (Christmas parties, retirement celebrations, new product launch celebrations), and group photos of professional organization events/meetings.
 
Finally, Johan has been creating many nature documentary videos for which he composed new music.  This is an area that is of great interest to him as it allows him to combine real-time experiences with musical inspiration.
